Ladies and Gentlemen,

As the new recently elected Chairman of the BBG, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the British Business Group, Jeddah's website. The website provides an array of details about the Group as well as information about other related subjects which we trust will be of interest to you.

The British Business Group in Jeddah has been in existence for over twenty years, and during that time it has been of great assistance to its members, the British Consulate's Trade Section and British exporters in the UK.

The aims and objectives of the BBG are primarily to further British business interests in the region and in doing so we provide an active business and social forum for members to meet, exchange ideas and contacts, learn about activities related to current business issues or projects and keep abreast of changes in Saudi business regulations.

We also provide information to our members through monthly speaker meetings which are both luncheons and dinners and depending on the speaker or venue, are also very often open to spouses of BBG members, interaction with prominent Saudi businessmen, surveys of the membership on topical business issues and a monthly newsletter containing Consular trade news and legal updates. In this way we are able to maximize information flow between members, the Saudi Arabian business community and the Consulate-General.

The BBG keeps in touch with other Business Groups across the Kingdom and within the Gulf region by annual meetings at which current issues are debated, with specialist speakers invited to contribute. These forums are attended by Committee members who then disseminate the information to Members by newsletters, and, in Jeddah's case, a formal publication of the proceedings.

Membership fluctuates between 150 and 250 - expatriates frequently move in and out of the Kingdom - and most monthly meetings are attended by around 40-70 members and guests. Full Membership is open to British Passport holders, resident in the Jeddah conurbation. In addition, Affiliate Membership is open to non-British passport holders, resident in the Jeddah conurbation, who can demonstrate that their business activities further British interests. A third category, Visiting Member, is open to British Passport holders who regularly visit Jeddah. Please note that all categories of membership are open, equally, to men and women who meet the other criteria.

Social activities include an annual sports competition against the American Businessmen of Jeddah, with an associated Ball, a "State of the Nation" Ball, usually held just either at the end or start of the year, Quiz nights and various other events where members can introduce their partners. These are in addition to the monthly events mentioned earlier. These events are an important part of Jeddah social life, enjoyed by all concerned.
