British Embassy offices in the Kingdom will be closed on 24 - 28 December and 1- 4 January for the seasonal holidays. As usual, in the event of a genuine emergency outside working hours, the Consulate's Duty Officer can be contacted on 055621533. In response to enquiries I confirm that there are at present no other plans which would affect the Consulate General's operations or the status of its staff or dependants.

Nevertheless we would remind you that the terrorist threat throughout Saudi Arabia remains high. You should maintain a high level of vigilance and evaluate carefully your individual security circumstances. The Travel Advice for Saudi Arabia continues to advise against all but essential travel to the Kingdom. The detailed advice is at www.fco.gov.uk/travel or via the Embassy's new website www.britishembassy.gov.uk/saudiarabia and go to "Travel Advice" via the short cut menu.

We have been informed by the local Saudi Authorities that residents of the Kingdom should carry their ID with them at all times.
