The Embassy in Riyadh has become aware of an apparent claim by a terrorist group that they followed Mr Edmund Muirhead-Smith before he was killed in Riyadh on 15 September, and that they knew he worked for Marconi - although they do not specifically say that was the reason why he was killed.

The Embassy cannot yet verify either of these claims, and it remains in close touch with the Saudi authorities on the investigation. But you may wish to look again at the Guidelines for Personal Security in the Consular area of the Embassy website www.britishembassy.gov.uk/saudiarabia which reflect the need to be vigilant against threats of this kind.
